How many calories should you eat per day: 1500, 1800 or 2500 kcal?

A balanced meal from the Elia Fit meal plan

The question "how much should I eat?" has no single correct answer. Daily calorie needs differ from person to person, and they change in the same person depending on the period and the goal. Here is how to arrive at a sensible estimate.

What affects calorie needs

  • Sex, age, height and body weight: a larger and more muscular body uses more energy.
  • Level of physical activity: an office job and regular training give very different needs.
  • Goal: losing weight, maintaining weight or building muscle call for different intakes.
  • Special conditions, for example pregnancy, when needs change from trimester to trimester.

Why we offer three package sizes

Elia Fit plans come in three sizes: small (1500 kcal), medium (1800 kcal) and large (2500 kcal). The small package usually suits women better and the larger one men, but that is only a guide. What matters more is how you feel and what your goal is.

How to check whether a package suits you

  1. Watch your energy level during the day: constant tiredness or a drop in concentration can mean you are eating too little.
  2. Pay attention to hunger between meals: a well-balanced plan should keep you full.
  3. Weigh yourself once a week, at the same time, and look at the trend over two to three weeks rather than single days.
  4. If the result is not heading towards your goal, change the package size instead of skipping meals.

What to be careful about

Very low calorie intakes are not a good idea without expert supervision, because they hardly cover all the body's needs. If you have health problems or are not sure which intake suits you, consult a doctor or nutritionist. When ordering you can tell us your goal and we will help you choose a package.
